2025-26 Public Workshops
Fundamentals of POGIL workshops are a great way to get introduced to POGIL. We offer this introductory experience throughout the academic year and the summer, so find a date that works best for you!
Summer workshops are designed for both those who are new to POGIL and those who have previously attended a POGIL workshop. Click here for a Scholarship Opportunity during the summer. Deadline is May 1.
The American Chemical Society also offers scholarships to support high school chemistry teachers as they identify and pursue opportunities that advance their professional development and enhance the teaching and learning of chemistry in their classrooms. Click here for more information. Deadline is Jan. 4.
The Dorothy and Moses Passer Education Grants provide support for faculty in small programs and who are somewhat isolated from others in their discipline. Eligible activities include professional development activities such as workshops related to enhancement of teaching skills that take the applicant away from his/her home institution. All applicants must have been registered and authenticated as members of the Division of Chemical Education (though not necessarily the American Chemical Society) at least 60 days prior to applying for the grant. Learn more here. Deadlines are Jan. 1, April 1, and Sept. 1, each year.

If you have a great idea for a POGIL activity, we can help you write it without you leaving home! Our 4-day Activity Writing Virtual Workshop features interactive team activities, as well as small homework assignments (~30 minutes) after each session. Workshop sessions will run from 1:00-4:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday-Thursday. On Friday, an optional Collaborative Feedback Training will be offered to allow participants to submit their own POGIL activities to the POGIL Activity Clearinghouse (a community of POGIL authors), review others’ activities, and classroom test draft activities.
Prerequisites: Virtual Fundamentals of POGIL workshop, a summer 3-day POGIL workshop, or a 1-day POGIL workshop. We will review your workshop participation and contact you if we feel you may not have met this requirement.

Make the most out of facilitating POGIL activities without having to leave home! We know that designing a classroom environment that is student-centered, collaborative, and responsive requires a different set of teaching strategies. This virtual session will give you the tools and confidence you need to run POGIL activities in your classroom, maximize content understanding, help your students grow their 21st century skills, and engage more deeply in subject matter. Our 4-day Classroom Facilitation Virtual Workshop features interactive team activities, as well as small homework assignments (~30 minutes) after each session. Workshop sessions will run from 1:00-4:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday-Thursday.

Those who have previously attended a POGIL workshop should attend their choice of sessions (Team Formation, Intro to POGIL Labs, or another session specific to your workshop.) On Days 2 and 3, all participants will follow a series of sessions (a track) based on their content area of interest: Activity Writing, Classroom Facilitation, or POGIL Labs (if offered).
